AUST WW1 Significant lot of approx 65 letter and associated ephemera sent by WW1 digger Pte Roy (Leslie Roy) satchell enlisted 09/09/1915 disch 30/12/1919. Initially with 5th field ambulance, Aust. medical corps. There are quite a number of letters on plain paper, some are on Y.M.C.A fund letterhead, in later war period many of the letters are on 1st Aust. general hospital letter head. In a letter in 1916 Roy details his experiences looking after wounded German prisoners. Also included are a number of B&W and colour post cards and also cablegrams. Most envelopes are still present (Address to the home address in N.S.W) their are two B&W photos in which Roy is present. A number of cards from Roy is also intact. A very interesting epherera lot. Copies of service documents. Grade II-

(68 letters, 2 photos and cablegrams, envelopes) attributed to Lieutenant Wilfred Charles Satchell M.C. 19th Bn (18th on RTA) Great set of handwritten letters most on plain paper, some on YMCA letterhead, some on 19th Bn letterhead. Some letters mention significant events during the war, numerous references to some of his friends becoming wounded & KIA. Also action on the Somme; the August offensive; news of his award of the Military Cross read by C.O. at the Mess Parade and of his receiving the M.C Investiture at Buckingham Palace by King George V. His brother Roy was also in the AIF during WWI and his letters are also available for auction. Grade II-
